I believe that Rogers theory (2009) of a speaker emphasizes important words and ideas by speaking louder or by repeating a key concept became evident when a member of the team asked ‘what is your customer base’ the client’s response was that ‘we have loyal customers, mostly repeat customers, new customers hear from loyal customers by word of mouth, our customers are very loyal’. My initial contact with the client was during the presentation, this was when the client met the whole of the team for the first time and for the team to make a good first impression. According to Ambady Skowronski (2008) exposure for a few seconds produces the first impression, which is normally very accurate. Body language is key to a good first impression Taylor (2005) expresses that the use of tone and gestures should be used to reinforce words. I believe that my presentation skills need a great deal of improvement as I get nervous and start to repeat what I have already said and not making sense. Levin Topping (2006) suggest a number of methods which could b used to combat nerves, in the future I will take these into consideration. Mandel (2000) defines 3 statements for planning a successful presentation. Through my experience at giving presentations the use of this would have been very helpful. In the future I will focus more on preparation as this could easy the nerves which show through my body language, as once the presentation starts it is difficult to fix non-verbal behaviour Rogers (2009). I enjoyed learning the module. At first I was not too sure about what the module entailed, progressing through the week I found the topics covered interesting, for instance I knew that a person is judged on appearance and body language on the first impression, but I did not know that it only took a person less than a minute for form an opinion which is usually correct. I liked the learning style in the workshops as I find it easier to learn something by first seeing then doing and then asking questions if I need to, this was all done in the tutorial workshops. Kolb’s learning theory (1984) also aided my learning to some extent. According to Parker (2008:13) teams are everywhere, in businesses, sport, education and the arts; of great importance in professional life, and that not all teams are effective. My initial thought about my selected group was that we could work well; we all seem to be aiming for a high grade. I previously knew one of the group members as we were working on other group work together, this made it easier to talk within the group. The group was solely formed for the purpose of completing the consultancy skills project. According to Business dictionary (2011) A team is defined as â€Å"a group of people with a set of complementary skills required in completing a task, job or project where the sum of performance is greater than performance of individual members†. I took the VARK learning style test it showed that I am a multimodal learner which took me by surprise as in past tests I have shown to be a kinaesthetic learner. When working I look at all possible options and eliminate inappropriate ones. I feel that I was not able to do this as things were rushed. All team members participated in a Belbin test and from the use of this we went through the development stages described by Tuckman (1965). The Belbin test helped to identify each members preferred roles. The team learnt to respect one another’s preferred working environments; essential within a team environment (Douglas 1978). The group was very understanding when I had to take time off for personal and health reasons as I gave dates for my absence when the group was formed. In the beginning the work was shared equally, however due to illness I could not participate as much as I would have like so the group had to take over most of my role. However through my absence I was in constant contact with the group. Communication is â€Å"the process of using verbal and non verbal cues to negotiate a mutually acceptable meaning between two or more people within a particular context and environment† (Lumsden et al, 2004). Communication methods used by the team indicated email involving all members was thought the most efficient method of virtual work enabling clear information flow apparent in modern project management (Martin and Tate, 2001). I feel that we worked well as a team, however unforeseen circumstances contributed to some friction within the group. The group organisation was also poor, due to other assignment commitments we left quite a few things to the last minute, which means people were under pressure, which caused arguments. According to Allen (2009), â€Å"effective teams are well organised, spend time building relationships and have quality communication;† Each person brought something different to the group. From looking at the Belbin tests I can see that two of the team members are suited to be project managers as they scored high in complete finisher, which was highlighted when the report was being written. Another member scored highly on co-ordinator, I feel that this did not shine through. Other aspects of the results from the Belbin test shone through throughout the life of the project. Portraying several aspects of effective teams; sharing a common purpose, bonded together by mutual interdependency, utilisation of individual talents, maintaining a problem solving focus and encouraging one another (Gray and Larson, 2011). Next time I will try to handle situations better. Referring back to Allen (2009) better organisation would prove beneficial; a project plan with a time line would have helped us keep in control of all work. Looking back on the Belbin test there are a lot of traits that I need to work on. I can motivate myself to do work and get on with a task, however working in a group you need the ability to motivate others which I feel I lack. During this group/team work has highlighted many of my strengths and weaknesses. I feel that I have improved on my confidence at meeting new people. This task has also made me more aware of my surroundings. Completing the Belbin and VARK test I can see me preferred learning and my preferred roles, this enables me to work on these traits for future work and references. This has been an experience that if I had a chance to do it again there would be a number of things that I would change, with this being the case it has given me areas that I can work and impro ve on. Motivating your student can be especially challenging if you’re working with a family member or friend. This kind of tutoring generally works best when the student is still quite young or is independently motivated and simply coming to you for extra help. Step 2: Study the Test As I mentioned above, in order to be a helpful tutor, you have to know the material you're tutoring: that means learning as much as you can about the SAT. Learnthe Format Though it may not seem important, you should start by making sure that you understand the basics of the SAT: how long it is, how many questions it has, and what the different sections are. Keep in mind that the SAT has changed quite a bit over the past decade, so even if you think you know it well from taking it in high school, make sure to review the current version of the test. It’s important to know exactlywhat your student can expect tosee on the SAT. You need to have a solid grasp onboth the different question formats and the material covered by the test - check out our guides to what's actually on each section of the test if you have questions. Reading Math Writing Understand the SAT's Unique Logic The SAT is very different from the kinds of tests students take in their classes. You’ll need to help your student understand these differences and how to use them to her advantage. First of all, remember that the SAT is overwhelmingly a multiple-choice test: it doesn’t matter how your student gets the right answer, just that shedoes. There are a lot of helpful strategies and shortcuts that can help students get to the answer more quickly. Another key point to remember is that SAT questions often include traps meant to trip up the test taker. Work with your student to help her practice reading questions carefully and resisting makingassumptions about what shethinks a question should be asking. Finally, never forget that the SAT is standardized: no matter how there is only ever one right answer and it is indisputably correct. Make sure you can explain not just why an answer is correct but why the other choices are wrong. Before you can be an effective teacher, you have to study up on the material yourself. Step 3: Set Goals Once you feel prepared, it's time to get started with your student, which means you need to establish exactly what she's hoping to get out of tutoring. You'll need to ask her about her personal aimsand the schools she's considering applying to so you can help her determine an appropriate score goal. Determining a Score Goal It’s easy to assume that you just want to get your student’s score as high as possible, but it’s better to have a specific score in mind. Not every student needs a 2400, and setting an achievablegoalgives your student something concrete to work toward. What the goalscore is will depend on what grade your student is in and what schools or programs she wants to apply to. Assuming your student is a junior or senior applying to colleges, you can use our method, which is based on the SAT scores colleges expect from applicants, to calculate a target. Narrowing Your Focus (If Necessary) Keep in mindthat your student mayneed to focus specifically on raising her score on one or two sections. A particularly low score on one section (especially math or reading) can count against an application, and some schools and programs have a cut off score for certain sections. Let's go over some ways you can help your student meet her goals by her test date. Set a Schedule It’s vital that you have a set schedule for tutoring. I usually start with a student’s weakest areas and then work through everything until I get to her strongest, revisiting the early concepts occasionally to review. Give Homework As I mentioned above, practice is key to improvement on the SAT. You’ll need to give your student practice questions to do or content to review between lessons. Ideally, you’ll also want to have them complete at least three full officialpractice SATs that simulate actual testing conditions. If you’re a parent or sibling rather than a professional tutor, you probably won't be able to convince your student to do extra homework. Instead, try setting aside an extra time during the week for them to study on their own. Good advice! Step 6: Teach the Big Picture When students sign up for tutoring, they often expect to learn tricks that help them instantly raise their scores. There aren’t really any such simple tricks, but there are helpful strategies that, when used consistently, can make a big difference in students’ scores. You may also need to provide content review for your student, depending on their strengths and weaknesses. The Character of Beowulf When he arrived at the Danish land, Beowulf was a young man seeking adventure and glory. Beowulf was distinguished among his people, the Geats, for his bravery. As a young man Beowulf fought in many battles and as a result showed his great character to others. Beowulf had many characteristics which helped him to succeed in battle. As a young man, Beowulf was known as the strongest man alive. His strength allowed him to dominate in battle. If it were not for his pure strength, he would not have been able to defeat Grendel, for weapons would not work. By fighting Grendel without weapons, he opened himself up to greater glorification. Beowulf's strength could not be seen as a disadvantage, while the results of his strength could. Beowulf's strength allowed him dominance in battle, but it also made him cocky. While his cockiness allowed Beowulf to be sure of himself in battle, some of his peers found it to be a character flaw. Ecglaf, in particular, saw Beowulf as cocky and vain, questioning, "Are you the Beowulf who competed with Breca...swollen with vanity..." So, while his cockiness was a flaw in the eyes of others, Beowulf saw it as self assurance and used it to his advantage. Beowulf also had a strong spirit of adventure. His spirit of adventure was part of the reason that Beowulf went to fight Grendel. Beowulf's strength and spirit of adventure had also led him to glory in many battles, including that with Grendel. Beowulf used his glory in previous battles to justify himself when coming to help Hrothgar. In addition, his self assurance, and known bravery probably guided his decision. Beowulf's spirit of adventure gained him a lot of glory, however, it could have gotten him into trouble, if he were to have taken an adventure too far. While in his young age, Beowulf used his strength for glory and recognition. As he became older his great strength was taken away from him, and Beowulf found himself without one of his greatest abilities. Beowulf then was king of the Geats, and when a dragon attacked his land, it was his responsibility to protect his people.

Nature imagery in Othello There are quite a few imageries about nature in the book written by William Shakespeare named Othello, were the two male leads named Iago and Othello are the ones who use them the most, Iago talks about how people are gardens also how easy it is to manipulate other peoples garden and he also uses poisonous plants to explain how much harm he has done, while Othello talks about how flowers represent his wife and how they die once they are plucked just like his lover for her.Iago in one of his most famous speeches in the book while having a conversation with Roderigo â€Å"Our bodies are our gardens, to the which our wills are gardeners: so that if we will plant nettles, or sow lettuce [†¦] either to have it sterile with idleness, or manured with industry, why, the power and corrigible authority of this lies in our wills. † He uses imagery to explain that people and he are gardens, the things we do and think are what we plant in it, it also takes ti me to take care of it you need to have patience and plant everything, people can manipulate it and it’s up to us to take care of it.He also says this during another conversation with Roderigo â€Å"Though other things grow fair against the sun, / Yet fruits that blossom first will first be ripe† which goes back to referring to his garden, that even after he plants multiple things the first thing he plants will always come first, which refers to Othello and the revenge Iago wants from him after taking the spot he has been working on since he started and he just came in and snatched it from him. The last imagery used by Iago says â€Å"The Moor already changes with my poison. Dangerous conceits are in their natures poisons, / . . . / . . . Not poppy nor mandragora / Nor all the drowsy syrups of the world / Shall ever medicine thee to that sweet sleep† He is saying that he has corrupted Othello so much that not even poppy or mandragora/mandrake, mandrake was used t o cleanse the body, could heal him from all the corruption he has put in Othello. â€Å"O thou weed,/ Who art so lovely fair and smell’st so sweet/ That the sense aches at thee, would thou hadst ne'er been born! Othello compares Desdemona with a weed since he has been deceived by Iago making him think that Desdemona cheated on him with Cassio and since he thinks this way about Desdemona now he decided to compare her to a weed that is so beautiful when in reality it’s the opposite and know that Othello knows the â€Å"real† Desdemona she will now wish she was never born since Othello is going to get revenge from all the â€Å"wrongs† she did to him.On the last scene where Othello kills Desdemona he comes to her chamber and sees her sleeping, he tells her â€Å"When I have plucked thy rose/ I cannot give it vital growth again,/ It must needs wither† What Othello means is that after he kills her there is no going back, he uses a rose that once that r ose is plucked it starts to slowly die and there is no way for the rose to stop from dying which is what is happening here.This can also signify the love that he has lost for Desdemona since she cheated on him with Cassio, when Othello plucked Desdemona’s love from his heart and it can never grow back again, since he doesn’t want for her to do this again he decides to kill her just like a flower will die from being plucked.The night that Desdemona was going to be murdered by Othello she sang the willow song â€Å"The poor soul sat sighing by a sycamore tree, Sing all a green willow: Her hand on her bosom, her head on her knee, Sing willow, willow, willow: The fresh streams ran by her, and murmur'd her moans; Sing willow, willow, willow; Her salt tears fell from her, and soften'd the stones; Lay by these:– Sing willow, willow, willow; Prithee, hie thee; he'll come anon:– Sing all a green willow must be my garland. Let nobody blame him; his scorn approve,- Nay, that's not next. -Hark! who is't that knocks? † Willow trees are often associated with mourning and grief, which is why they are often called weeping willow, which fits perfectly to what Desdemona is feeling. Desdemona singing this song reflects how she is feeling about Othello, even though she is being accused for something that isn’t true she doesn’t say that he is wrong, even when she knows that he is, she goes along with what he says because she loves him so much, even though it hurts her to be thought like that by the love of her life.When I first read the book Othello, I didn’t pay attention to the references about nature that William Shakespeare used in this particular text, after reading it and getting this assignment I decided to go back and re-read it on my own. After reading the book I noticed that the main characters used plants to explain what they were feeling or going through, for someone to be able to understand and catch on to all of this one needed to be very oriented in nature.
